YFC: HomeFront teams pray for their friends. Tell us about the friend that you prayed for.

Heather: So I don’t really know what she believed before but she didn’t believe in evolution but she didn’t believe in God either.

How did you get to know her?

I first met Courtney because she was on my soccer team and then when school came and stuff she was in lots of my classes.

HFM Teams encourage each other to Pray for unsaved friends. Tell us about that.

Okay, prayer definitely has a lot into it of people coming to Christ. I have this prayer log and I write daily different people I meet that day or just people I see or people I pray for just because I know they need it. I pray for Courtney when I wake up and do my little bible study by myself and I prayed for her before I go to bed and here at Shine and Youth group and on my prayer request cards for our praying grandmas.

What did you pray for for your friend and yourself?

For Courteney I prayed for her salvation and that if God didn’t already reveal himself to her that he would again  and if not just reveal himself. For myself I prayed that Jesus would shine His light through me and that I would take the opportunities he gives me and not just let them go by and really be a good friend to Courteney.

HFM Teams Discover how God wants them to love their friends like Jesus. What did you find?

Well, at first for Courteney I would just invite her to sit next to me at lunch and like walk with her to class and invite her to my birthday party and just hang out at my house and stuff and be a friend to her and love her.

You invited her to the lunch time campus ministry, “Shine.” What happened?

She at first said “no thank you” and was really polite about it. I asked one of her friends why she didn’t come and she told me that she didn’t believe in God and neither did her family. My sister was friends with her sister and I went home and talked to my sister about it and she said “yeah her family doesn’t believe in God” and I started praying for her.

You didn’t give up though. What else happened?

I also invited her to youth group. We were having this month long Gladiators thing where we would just play games and have fun. There’s teams and I invited her to that because there were cards and I gave her one and she came and she was really excited about that. The second week we did that… we had the prayer of asking Jesus into our hearts and it was a choice.

She got to hear the gospel with you at Youth Group. We have to know what happened next.

Two weeks later she came to shine and that was a blessing because I looked and I saw her and I had to do a double take. “Oh that’s Courteney!” And we were doing a small group and we were all talking and I think Maddie asked her, “When did you come to Christ?” and she said “well two weeks ago” and I assumed that was at the youth group that we went to. Yay!

Coaching students to follow Jesus into their friend’s lives and become an expression of His love.
